A suspect involved in last month’s $28 million diamond theft from an ABN Amro bank vault in Antwerp was arrested by the German police, while he was attempting to leave the country on April 4th, said the Antwerp prosecutor's office, according to reports.

Belgian prosecutors, who are seeking his extradition, consider the 47-year-old man to be an accomplice to the crime. The main suspect in the case, a 55-year-old man, is still at large and may have fled to Israel, the investigators added.

“The investigation is being conducted rigorously and will continue,” the prosecutor's office said in the statement. “All information regarding these two suspects, including their activities, former and present whereabouts are of interest to the investigators,” it added.

The main suspect in the case used the false identity of ‘Argentinian Carlos Hector Flomenbaum’ in his correspondence with the ABN Amro branch, where he was a regular client.

Meanwhile, on Sunday April 15, four armed men drove two stolen cars through the front entrance of the Wafi Mall in Dubai at night, targeting a store belonging to the British jeweller Graff.

The men, who were seen carrying hammers and guns, shattered the jeweller’s main glass window and stole goods that were on display. Graff has not yet commented on the incident and its losses are still being evaluated. The police have not made any arrests.
