GIA plans to host a variety of activities for its participation at the upcoming 2016 Tucson shows. The Institute will have a presence at the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) GemFair™, from February 2-7, and the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show (TGMS) from February 11-14, both taking place at the Tucson Convention Center.

Amongst its activities planned will include a show service laboratory, an alumni party, exhibitions and seminars.

The GIA Show Service Laboratory at AGTA GemFair will offer show attendees and exhibitors access to gem identification and country-of-origin services. The Free GIA Seminar will include a presentation by GIA’s Distinguished Research Fellow Dr. James Shigley on “The Latest News from GIA Research.” The GIA Education segment will offer one fee-based lab class and two fee-based lecture/labs during the AGTA GemFair™. A Diamond Grading Lab Class will be organised teaching how to grade diamonds consistently and accurately using a modern gem microscope and a jeweler’s loupe. The Identifying Gemstone Treatments Seminar and the Identifying Diamond Treatments Seminar will both be presentations and hands-on lab led by GIA instructors.

GIA Museum Exhibits on “Striking Gold!” will unfold at AGTA GemFair, and GIA Library Exhibit will feature some of its most venerated books in mineralogy and gemology at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. “Providing Access in a Digital World” will give insights into the library’s recent digitization project. The GIA Alumni Association will have host a Party at the GIA Gem Mine: Arctic Blast, in Tucson. Also, GIA at the CAD/CAM Pavilion will see GIA experts at the AGTA GemFair interacting and answering questions on various aspects of GIA’s Jewelry Manufacturing Arts program.
