In the first of its survey, Careers in Africa Employer of Choice Awards, which was held in Johannesburg, it concluded that De Beers was the top attraction for the professional talent in the continent of Africa. The results were based on a survey of more than 13,000 professionals representing every sector on the continent and including over 2,700 based outside Africa. Global Career Company and Towers Watson jointly ran the survey and came to above conclusion.

In its final findings the report suggests that while base pay is the top attraction globally when considering a new role, only 48 per cent of the African talent pool cited its critical importance, placing it as only the 11th most important factor. For the African workforce, the opportunity to learn new skills and the ability to make an impact come first and that is very important.
