IDMA makes new headways with DDI

IDMA surfaces plans for better diamond manufacturing and trading.

The International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) brought in new innitiatives to the diamond industry, in their meeting in Antwerp that concluded on 26th June 2007. The Presidents of the IDMA, have endorsement the Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) - a co-effort of the diamond industry, NGO’s, governments, banks and other interested parties, to improvise the artisinal alluvial diamond mining sectors. IDMA’s Secretary General, Mr. Stephane Fischler, was also apopointed in the DDI Board of Directors.

While, IDMA is also dealing with various issues on diamond futures and derivatives financial market and the benefits it will have on prospective investors. It has pointed out that every diamond financial product should be fully transparent without any conflicts of interest.

Talking with CIBJO President, Mr. Gaetano Cavalieri, IDMA wishes to establish guidelines for all diamond grading laboratories for their technology and expertise, to ensure full disclosure and detection of treatments, simulants, and synthetic diamonds. In a manner of consolidating the diamond inductry, IDMA Presidents invited the new diamond manufacturing centres for membership. The body has also included Diamond Manufacturers Association of Canada as a full member to search new sources for rough diamonds.
