Indian gold coins with Ashoka Chakra symbol to be introduced

Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitely announced the country’s government plans to introduce Indian gold coins embodying the Ashoka Chakra symbol on its face, reports say. The intent of the government towards this is to curtail the demand for gold coins minted abroad, noted the Finance Minister, reports add.

He further cited this would also help recycle the gold available in India, as per reports.

The Ashoka Chakra is seen on the Indian Flag today and depicts the is a depiction of the dharmachakra symbolised with 24 spokes.

The Indian gold coins are expected to be introduced next month. IT may be recalled that the Minister had mentioned in February the government would be working on developing the said coins, reports add.
