At its recently concluded Fine Jewellery Sale in New York, leading auction house Bonhams sold the key lot in the sale – the Rivière necklace for US$ 1,205,000. This piece carried an estimated price of $1,400,000-$1,800,000, according to the company, reports add. The sale was held on June 22.

The necklace was ‘one of many pieces in the auction that exemplified connoisseurship’, as per Bonhams, reports note. It also indicated that ‘round diamonds are storming back into fashion. This set of diamonds has a classical, timeless elegance that shines through’, the company noted in reports.

The auction house also noted that 2015 would favor coloured gemstones. It witnessed at the auction that there was enthusiastic bidding for a turn-of-the-century imperial topaz and diamond pendant brooch, which increased its price and it sold for $87,500, higher by 9 times its estimate. A fine 25-carat sapphire and diamond ring by M. Gerard got much attention and sold for US$ 581,000. A pair of emerald and diamond earrings was bought for US$ 118,750, over twice its estimated price, reports say. According to the company, the sale reflected intense bidding for the exquisite pieces, indicating the value for quality amongst buyers in today’s times.
