Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced new services along with its recent offerings of the colored gemstone Identification Reports. Its clientele can now avail of reports on a priority service basis, wherein reports are delivered within 48 hours. Whats also new are volume discounts, detailed reports on quality assurance, expanded origin and analyses of the complete scientific examination of a gemstone.

GIA will offer country of origin opinions on ruby, sapphire, emerald, and tourmaline in its Identification Reports, upon request. Also analytical reports would be generated to inform on RI, SG, UV fluorescence, a description of the inclusions, color distribution, and the stone chemistry.

Four types of Quality Assurance Reports (QARs) would be for sorting, batch testing, preliminary testing, and beryllium testing for corundum. A “Volume Discount” service would assure customers of a certain discount on a specified number of stones beginning with a minimum of 10 of the same type.

Tom Moses, senior vice president of GIA Laboratory and Research, said, “The GIA Laboratory has made a four-part commitment to the industry: to provide additional services to our clients, to add significant capacity, to perform the work in half the time, and to accomplish this without sacrificing any of our standards”.
