diamond world news service

Russia has recorded a decline in its gold production, during the first half of 2007, a 3.4% dip compared to the first half of 2006, as mentioned by Russian Gold Producers' Union.
It currently produced 55.147 tonnes of gold during this period.

Estimates for the annual gold output appear to be on the downslide, as gold found close to the surface was depleting. The decline is likely to be between 2% and 4%, and will fall from the 164.32 tonnes output generated in 2006, according to the Russian association.

During 2006, Russia ranked sixth in its gold output, with South Africa being the highest (270 tonnes), US (260 t.), Australia (260 t.), China (240 t.) and Peru (210 t.).
