Sotheby’s Geneva offers the Pink Star for November sale

Sotheby’s Geneva is slating a sale on November 13, in which it will offer the Pink Star diamond. The said diamond is noteworthy for it is a 59.60-carat, internally flawless, fancy vivid pink, type IIa diamond. David Bennett, the chairman of Sotheby’s jewelry division in Europe and the Middle East, said that the Pink Star has ‘exceptional richness of color – graded as ‘vivid pink’ by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)’ and is of extraordinary size, are characteristics that surpass those of any known pink diamond in state, royal or private collections’. The auction house believes that of this stone is sold during the auction it will be a record price for any gemstone so far at auction, reports say.

The Pink Star carries a pre-sale estimate of over $60 million, reports say. It was sourced from a 132.50-carat rough diamond recovered by De Beers in 1999, to be later cut and polished by Steinmetz Diamonds. The Pink Star will be showcased across Hong Kong, New York, London, Zurich and Geneva, reports say.
