WDC Board extends terms of elected officers through to 2023
At the annual Facets of Hope dinner in Las Vegas last week, Jewelers for Children raised $1.1 million which brought the organization’s fundraising tally to over $60 million. A list of auctions in the last week marked great revenue. An Asian private collector paid $13 million for a pear-shaped 101.41-carat, D-color, internally flawless stone at Sotheby’s New York sale, renaming it the Claire G diamond, after his wife. Gemfields too recorded its highest auction revenue till date, for rubies sourced from its Montepuez mine. A Kashmiri sapphire led the sales revenue at Bonhams Hong Kong Jewels and Jadeite Auction, selling for HK$3,279,000. According to Bain & Company the global luxury industry grew by almost a fifth at the start of the year as European spending recovered at a faster rate than expected. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry reported strengthened demand for high-end time pieces with a global rise of 14% y-o-y with US gaining 35% and Europe 32%. According to GJEPC India’s rough imports too reported a rise by 14% while polished exports grew 4% y-o-y. In the 127 year history of Swarovski, a professional, and not a family member will be at the helm of its business operations. Alexis Nasard will be taking over from interim CEO Michele Molon on July 4 as Chief Commercial Officer of the Austrian crystalware group.
