The Hong Kong Jinx
Looks like Hong Kong has been on a spell of bad luck. Last year, the protests nearly brought the gems and jewellery industry to a standstill, affecting the footfall of the September show. Many buyers avoided the show due to violent protests that thronged the streets of HK.

Now, the deadly coronavirus has yet again brought the industry to a halt, causing factories to shut down and businesses have again taken a beating. HKDTC too made an announcement that it will be postponing the March show to May, much to people’s disappointment.

While the move has been made to protect the industry, people from the trade are worried about the effectiveness of the show in May, as it falls between Basel World and JCK. Let’s just hope the show, that has always been important to the industry, remains so this year too.
