One man’s loss is another man’s gain
The ongoing U.S. China Trade War could be a blessing in disguise for the Indian gems and jewellery industry as it could possibly give impetus to the industry. An already struggling industry coupled with the recent import duty hike has pulled down the exports by 10% in the last three months.

Due to the tensions faced by Chinese manufacturers, the business is naturally inclined to shift towards India from China. This could give a much needed boost to the industry. Thanks to skilled labour and decades of experience in cutting and polishing gemstones and diamonds, India is the next stop destination.

However, it will not be all rosy as there could be certain hurdles that could hamper the entry of manufacturing. The government needs to work on a favourable tax structure and provide suitable methods for ease of doing business in order to propel exports.
