It is Business as Usual
Skepticism has been put to shame, with buyers making a beeline to enter one of the most sought after jewellery exhibits in the world. Jewellers across the world were worried, some even cancelled their visit which obviously resulted in a less attractive footfall – but the ones who risked going to the show did not regret it.

The major brands were seen shopping and the organizers were pretty clear right from the beginning about the occurrence of the show and postponement was never an option. The show that witnessed around 60,000 buyers last year is extremely important for the gems and jewellery business globally, more so locally – businesses in China and HK thrive on the deals they crack at the show every year, and considering this year has been particularly trying, this show was their only solace.

More than the protests and the tension that pervades through the streets of Hong Kong, what is affecting the health of this sector is the ongoing feud between U.S. and China, which is rubbing off globally. The fair for finished jewels began on Wednesday and will go on till Sunday – if the positive sentiment the past few days is anything to go by, then the rest of the show might have a good run too.
