Indian diamond exports surged 32% in Feb 2023, boosting overall gem and jewellery exports by 24%
|
|
Gem and jewellery exports in India experienced a surge in February 2023, with cut and polished diamonds being a major contributor to the growth. The gross export of cut and polished diamonds witnessed a strong growth of 32% to ₹19582.38 crores in February 2023, compared to ₹14841.90 crores in February 2022.
According to Vipul Shah, Chairman of GJEPC, the cut and polished diamond export surge can be partly attributed to the strong demand from China and the Lunar New Year festivities. The recent Hong Kong show also revealed untapped demand in the Chinese market, which could lead to significant growth in the diamond and diamond jewellery industry over the next 6 months.
Overall, the gem and jewellery exports in India witnessed a surge of 24% in February 2023, with cut and polished diamonds being a major driver of the growth.
