Hope is the Word
The mood around General Election is usually somber. The general mindset of consumers around this time is to lie low. Heavy duty investments are not made and jewellers too are treading cautiously. Surplus of diamonds in the market has caused the price of diamonds to drop – hence leading miners have made the decision to bring down the production by a third.

In India though, this year marks the presence of the maximum number of auspicious days, which translates into more weddings, which in turn translates into more diamonds and more jewellery! The DPA is implementing every trick in the book to promote diamonds world over. It is going to launch a campaign in India, this time for the stakeholders in the diamond value chain, to help them identify synthetics.

The Moral Code of Conduct was announced earlier this week. The air is full of excitement. We don’t really know what is ahead in the next couple of months, but as jewellers we can only hope for a Government that believes in progress.
