Domestic Council to Give a Positive Push to the Gems and Jewellery Industry
Indian gems and jewellery industry will soon have a one inclusive body to speak for them and that is proposed Domestic Council. The industry is scattered across India and so are their representative organisations. What industry needed above everything else was one unified body that would represent them to the government. With the proposed council, all the agencies across the country have been rolled into one and now there will be one voice. “Earlier, there used to be small individual associations that used to go to the Government separately. Now, thanks to this central body, all the issues can be addressed together,’ said GJEPC Chairman Pramod Agarwal. All the necessary processes to form this council have to be completed by 31st July 2018.

The aim of the council is to form an association at the national level which could consist of members from states regional associations. The domestic council would work on all the issues including for exports and pushing the growth of the sector at domestic level.
