Winning designs of HRD Awards 2011 announced

The HRD Awards 2011 finally reached the last leg, with winners being announced and awarded at a ceremony in Shanghai, China. The competition had invited jewellery designers across the globe to submit their interpretations of contemporary designs in diamond jewellery incorporating this year’s theme -‘You and Me’ referring to the mystery of dualism and Yin and Yang, the balance in the extremes. From the record 1,396 entries received, 29 shortlisted entrants were selected to make their jewellery pieces and compete for the five winning positions, from which the jury announced five winners.

The winning jewels were unveiled at the awards night in China amidst an elite gathering of industry professionals. The Governor of the Province of Antwerp, the Belgian ambassador to China, the Belgian Consul General in Shanghai, the Vice-Mayor of Antwerp were present as guests of hour. Designer Jiang Zhe from China won the first prize, followed by Alia Mouzannar from Lebanon, Gabri Schumacher from The Netherlands, Maja Houtman from The Netherlands and Chun Man Ping from Taiwan. The event also hosted the granting of the “Officer of the Order of King Leopold II” recognition to Ling Qiang, president of the SDE, in celebration of the diplomatic relations between Belgium and China.

The awards night was a significant moment for the host country, being its first opportunity to host it. "The fact that we hold this year’s HRD Awards ceremony in China indicates that China's diamond industry is highly valued and recognized by the international industry experts", Shanghai Diamond Exchange President Lin Qiang said.

"Chinese consumers are becoming increasingly aware of quality and authenticity, especially when buying diamond jewellery. The introduction of the HRD Awards collection in Shanghai will help us to further develop our business opportunities in China, by opening doors and connecting by means of the magic of diamond jewellery”, concludes Georges Brys, General Manager HRD Antwerp.

The HRD Awards is an initiative launched by HRD Antwerp and is jointly organised with the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, supported by the Gems and Jewelry Trade Association of China and sponsored by Kimberlite Diamond.
