Winners of RBS Solitaire Awards announced

The RBS Solitaire Awards, a platform which honours creativity in the gem and jewellery industry, took place this year during the GJEPC organised -India International Jewellery Show 2012, with the theme ‘Color Splash’. The awards ceremony was held at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Rajiv Jain, Chairman, GJEPC, “The RBS Solitaire Awards are an attempt by the GJEPC to give an impetus to the creative streak in participants across various categories and reward all those blessed with exceptional creative talents in keeping with their theme of providing upcoming talent a platform to showcase their skill sets".

This year, participants competed in two categories - Competition A was designated for IIJS Domestic & International Exhibitors, while Competition B was for Non-IIJS exhibitors such as students, artisans, designers, etc. The competition received a variety of entries exhibiting diverse shades, hues, and pigments, with the use of colourful gemstones, enameling, electroplating, precious and non-precious materials, etc. The entries were judged by a five-member jury that included jewellery historian Dr. Usha Balakrishnan, jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali, renowned painter Bose Krishnamachari, Sunil Datwani, Proprietor, Gehna Jewellers and Vishesh Verma, renowned fashion photographer.

Competition A: Altogether 93 entries in the Formal Wear category and 23 entries in the Daily Wear category were received. Shankesh Jewellers won the first place in the daily wear category for its creation of a gold pendant encapsulating a landscape aura; Sangam Diamonds won the second place for a gem-studded peacock pendant with its feathers hand woven with gold threads. The third prize went to Sangam Chains for a 18-karat yellow gold ring in the shape of a coffee mug and featuring white enamel with gold lifting. The Critics awarded Sangam Chians for its cuff for the hand titled the New Neon.

The Formal Wear Category saw Ansaa’s ‘Tango with Turquoise’ anklet winning first place; followed by B R Designs for its Eleganza 18-karat white and pink gold pendant and Jewels Emporium took the third spot for its 18-karat gold pendant with champlevé enameling. Binny’s won the Critics’ award for its ‘Power of positivity'- multicolored cocktail ring.

Competition B received 223 entries. Meghna Bag won the first place for her bracelet titled ‘the evolution’; followed by Bimal Koley for his ‘Swirl of colours’ - an 18-karat white gold and diamond studded bangle. Hariharan T.S’s work ‘Amazing Creature’ which are danglers inspired by the fins of a fish, won the third prize. The Critics awarded Bhavin Rupani for his 18-karat white gold broad cuff inspired by the theme 'global warming'.
