In April 2013, polished diamond imports into U.S. rose 19 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $1.71 billion. The per carat price rose 20 percent to $1,934, reports say. Exports of polished diamonds rose 40 percent to $1.609 billion, with the per carat price rising 47 percent to $1,530.
The country’s net imports dropped 64 percent to $101 million.
Imports of rough diamonds rose 22 percent to $33 million. Rough diamond exports were up 73 percent to $26 million, reports suggest.
The country’s net imports stood at $7 million (the same was $12 million in April 2012). The net diamond account stood at $108 million, dropping 63 percent as compared to the same month last year, reports say.
