Thefts reported at Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair

In all, 17 thefts were reported at the recently concluded Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair, says a report. During the 4-day event, jewels worth a total of HK$6.9 million were stolen, says a report.

The report further adds that three people were arrested for the theft of a HK$830,000 diamond on the opening day of the fair, while a bag of diamonds worth some HK$460,000 was reported to have gone missing on June 27. The two cases took the total number of thefts reported to 17 in the course of the show at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, says a report.

On June 25, the show’s opening day alone, 12 thefts of diamonds and other jewels were reported, with a total value of HK$5 million. One case, reported within two hours of the doors opening, involved a HK$465,000 diamond. The fair has long been a target for thieves, adds a report.
