The Red Dragon Leads Phillips’ New York Jewels

On the heels of Phillips’ successful Jewels sale in Hong Kong, which was met with enthusiasm from across the globe, Phillips is proud to announce highlights from the December sale in New York, featuring nearly 140 lots of exceptional rarity and significance. Leading the auction is The Red Dragon, an exceptional Burmese ruby and diamond ring weighing 6.43 carats, estimated at $1-1.5 million, followed by an Important Fancy Intense Pink Diamond Pendent Necklace weighing 4.05 carats by Boodles, estimated at $800,000-1.2 million respectively. Following the exhibition at 432 Park Avenue, the live Jewels sale will be held in New York on 13 December, with a concurrent online sale open for bidding from 6-14 December.

Benoît Repellin, Worldwide Head of Jewellery, and Eva Violante, Head of Department, Americas, said, “It’s clear from the results achieved this week in Hong Kong that the market for rare and important jewels is strong across the board. Featuring an impressive selection of jewels from distinguished private collections, our New York sale presents an exquisite array of pieces that span a century – from a late 19th century antique diamond necklace to a contemporary Wendy Yue diamond, colored diamond, and opal necklace. The auction also features two examples that are among the highest value jewels lots to ever be offered at Phillips, The Red Dragon and a stunning Boodles pink diamond pendant necklace. The sale offers a fine selection for collectors across the board, and we look forward to inviting those in New York to our exhibition and sale at 432 Park Avenue this December.”

‘The Red Dragon’ is an exceptional Burmese Ruby and Diamond ring coming from a Private Collection and is offered as the top lot of Phillips’ December sale. This no heat with exceptional size and purity ring is described as having a “remarkable size and weight of 6.437 ct, combined with an attractive and beautifully saturated purplish red color and a very fine purity, a combination rarely encountered in Burmese rubies of this size. Based on these excellent qualities, the client named this ruby 'The Red Dragon'."
