Intent is to ease trading for the Thai industry
Thai government and jewellery bodies co-operate

In what can be looked upon as a co-operative effort of the Thai government and Thailand’s gem and jewellery industry, the Ministry of Commerce has joined hands with state agencies and industry bodies, to encourage rough gems traders to abide to official regulations in their conduct of businesses.

This step is advantageous especially for the small and medium traders to follow procedures of the Customs, when declaring their imports from the outset.

This entire initiative is part of a bid of the Ministry, along with the related entities like Ministry of Finance and Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, to remove obstacles and help strengthen the growth of Thailand's gems and jewellery industry and allow industry players to conduct their businesses in a seamless manner. The gems and jewellery industry plays an important role in the Thai economy, being the country's fourth largest exporter in terms of value with 289.45 billion baht (US$8.27 billion) being recorded last year and providing more than one million jobs.

An utmost cooperation from the public and private sectors concerned to help solve problems, will help the jewel sector to face uncertainties in the world economy while keeping Thailand on the forefront in the global marketplace.
