Sotheby’s to feature exceptional gems at its April sale

Sotheby’s is organising a sale "Always in Style: 150 Years of Artistic Jewels," in New York on April 20, 2010, which will be of Magnificent Jewels and a single owner auction.

White diamonds to be presented at the auction are the kind that are rare and of wearable sizes weighing 10 carats and less. Included in the lot is a platinum and diamond ring set with a 9.25-carat, D, internally flawless, type IIa stone, graded triple-EX. Its presale estimate is between $1 million to $1.5 million, reports say. Coloured diamonds to be featured include a rare fancy intense, pinkish-orange diamond ring embedded with a 7.67-carat, type IIa, cut-cornered rectangular modified, brilliant-cut stone, profiled as the largest flawless or internally flawless diamond of its hue, which GIA has graded until today. The ring bears a presale estimate between $2.5 million to $3.5 million. There is also a fancy vivid yellow diamond necklace, with 42 GIA-certified, fancy vivid yellow diamonds weighing 100.17 carats, and set in a graduated riviere style. The presale estimate of this piece is $2 million to $3 million. Sotheby's states that it is the first piece of its kind to feature at an auction, made completely of fancy vivid yellow diamonds.

An 8.66-carat ruby and diamond ring, which the auctioneer describes as "a unique and the finest ‘pigeon blood red’ rubies carries a presale estimate of $1 million to $1.5 million and belongs to the Gardner family.

The auctioneer will display these highlights at three different venues: Sotheby’s Los Angeles on March 26, Hong Kong from April 3 to April 6, New York from April 16 to April 20.
