Shairu Gems Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. is India’s first cutting and polishing company to supply natural diamonds as CarbonNeutral® products certified by Natural Capital Partners.
The first milestone reached by Shairu Gems Diamonds was eight months ago when it became the first Indian natural diamond cutting and polishing company to be certified by Natural Capital Partners as a CarbonNeutral® company. The company has now launched an additional certification programme in association with Natural Capital Partners for its products. This would mean Shairu Gems Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. will henceforth certify its diamonds as a completely CarbonNeutral® product. Shairu Gems Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. has achieved this second milestone as a result of having embraced a number of ongoing carbon reducing initiatives over the years, namely its facility certification in 2013 by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) as a LEED Gold Level Green New Building for its design, which was later elevated to a Platinum Level Green Factory Rating in 2019 and in 2020 a Net Zero Energy (Design) Rating based on their building’s performance.
As a result, Shairu Gems Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. has neutralized its carbon footprint through a combination of internal emissions reduction projects and investments in high-quality environmental instruments, which directly contribute to achieving all 17 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The emissions per polished carat are 74.27 kgCO2e, which is 54% less than the estimated average natural diamond polished per carat globally. Customers can now be sure that with each diamond they purchase from Shairu Gems Diamonds, they are contributing towards a sustainable future – one that is wholly aligned with De Beers’ vision in fostering a sustainable, traceable and ethically prosperous value chain.
