Second IIGJ in Mumbai inaugurated at Tardeo

The second facility of Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) in Mumbai was recently inaugurated by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at Tardeo, Mumbai. The inauguration was done at the hands of GJEPC chairman Shri Rajiv Jain amidst an attendance of Shri Vasant Mehta, chairman, IIGJ, Shri Sanjay Kothari, vice chairman, GJEPC, Shri Sabyasachi Ray, executive director, GJEPC, and Mrs. Namita Pandya, convener, IIGJ Tardeo.

IIGJ is an initiative of the GJEPC, aiming to cultivate and strengthen India’s gem and jewellery talent pool across the country, by offering educational and training courses. And the increased numbers of IIGJ institutes in the country add to such opportunities. There are three other IIGJ institutes in India, one in Delhi, one in Jaipur and another in Mumbai.

Although each institute currently has a different programme and curriculum, the GJEPC states this is initial, but ultimately plans to bring ‘all certification and syllabus of the institutes under a common umbrella’. Of the courses offered at present, some include basic and advance jewellery designing, diamond grading and computer aided jewellery designing (CAD-RHINO) and a course in enamelling is expected to be introduced soon.
