A special economic zone for the gems and jewellery sector is going to become a reality very soon as the district industries department and Meerut Development  Authority have already started the process of identifying the land, reports suggest. After the process of identifying around 15 acres of land for the special economic zone is completed, it will become a reality in 2 years.

In this direction, the Meerut Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Society has already started working on the project. Of course, the final report will be sent to state govt for its review and it will be taking the final decision about the land in the area.

As per reports, the proposed SEZ will have 20 to 25 units and each will have an area of 1800 to 4500 sqft. The SEZ in Meerut will be the third common special export zone in Western Uttar Pradesh. As of now the other two special zones are located in Moradabad and Noida.
