Rough diamonds worth Rs 50 lakh stolen in Surat

The diamond city of Surat suffered a diamond robbery in which the rough diamonds were of Rs 50 lakh in value, reports say. Four robbers stole the diamonds from two employees of P Shailesh Angadiya of Mini Bazaar in Varachha, an angadia (similar to a courier service in India) firm, reports add. The robbers were on motorbikes.

Both employees were traveling on their motorcycle carrying the bag of roughs to be delivered to a person who would take it to its destination in Amreli. It was then that the four robbers attacked the employees with sticks and hit them on the head, reports say. Both employees collapsed and had found the bag gone when they regained consciousness. An FIR is registered with the police who reportedly noted that investigations are underway. The owners of the diamond parcel and the angadia firm were being questioned, reports suggest.
