
At the close of the third quarter this year, mining giant Rio Tinto noted a 5 percent increase (on y-o-y basis) in its diamond production to 3.706 million carats.
The company’s fully-owned Argyle diamond mine recorded 7 percent increase in production to 2.454 million carats. Higher grade recovery at the Argyle mine is what the company attributes to its overall increased diamond production in the said quarter.
Rio Tinto’s 60 percent share in Canada’s Diavik mine churned somewhat a flat production at 1.160 million carats. The company’s 78 percent share in the Murowa mine saw a 28 percent increase in production to 92,000 carats.
