RMC launches collectible gold coins

The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) has come up with limited edition of collectible gold coins in 14 to 22 carat for the New Year. The RCM hopes that such limited edition products will help to boost sales of collectible coins, citing the recent success of other minting such as the silver dollar.

"We have made a conscious effort, for 2006, to build on products that have been of keen appeal to collectors last year and to carefully assess mintages in an effort to increase the value of our coins for collectors," said head Marguerite F. Nadeau. "We remain committed to maintaining our customer-driven focus, and I believe our 2006 flagship products are a testimony to this pledge."

Among the flagship products on release is an 18-carat gold ring to celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 29th. The coins are designed by Harvey Chen, features a dog. The coin will also be of interest to collectors as it is the seventh coin in the RCMs hologram lunar series. Mintage is limited at just 4,888 and the coin retails at $4,888 CD. Other coins include a 14-carat gold coin featuring the Britannia from 1900, a $100 14-carat coin and $200 22-carat coin.
