Q1 diamond imports to China increase by 95.4 per cent

Import of diamonds into China has increased by 95.4% to $188 million during the year's first quarter as per the data published by 'Diamond Administration of China'.

Diamond imports shot up by 257% in March, hitting $34.9 million as compared to March 2006.

The incredible boom is attributed in China to the decrease of VAT on the import of polished diamonds from 17% to 4%.
