Two gem quality roughs weighing135.6 and 74.7 carats, respectively, were recovered by Petra Diamonds Limited from its Koffiefontein mine in South Africa. Petra confirmed that these roughs would yield good sales, as illustrated by another Koffiefontein rough of 60.25 carat which sold for US$736,000.

According to Petras Chairman Adonis Pouroulis, "The acquisition of the Koffiefontein mine was only recently completed, yet the recovery within a short time frame of these exceptional stones, together with the high value run of mine production, means Petra's expectations for revenue and bottom line cash flow from the mine should be substantially exceeded." Petra had taken over the mine from De Beers who owned it for around 100 years.
