NMDC discovers a 37.68 carat diamond from Panna mines

State-run mineral giant NMDC recently discovered a 37.68 carat diamond from Panna diamond mines in Madhya Pradesh, which stands as its biggest discovery till date. The 37.68 carat stone, a white rough diamond of octahedron shape is attributed to be of "good quality" and is valued by experts between Rs 2.5 and 5 crore. Although the commercial value of the stone is yet to be ascertained and the diamond is expected to be auctioned.

The Panna mines are located at Majjhgavan in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and are Asia's biggest mechanised diamond mines. NMDC is the sole organised diamond producer in India.
