Macau Show did not yield a happy ending

The 2009 edition of the Macau Jewellery & Watch Fair, the second showing of the show, did not yield expected results. It seemed the buyers reduced in numbers as the show dragged through the end. The first day did see a host of buyers enter, but as Sunday came, buyers could barely be counted.

Buyers from China, which many exhibitors were looking forward to, did not account for huge numbers. Big stones did not see much demand either. Trade between exhibitors was lower than last year’s show. Some of the exhibitors felt the low turnout could be attributed to the show timing being close to the Chinese New Year, which falls this year on January 26, for which, a number of Chinese buyers have already placed their orders prior to the show.
