Government agency MMTC is considering entering into an agreement with India Post to sell the India Gold Coins, as per reports. India Gold Coins is the initiative of the Indian government to create a national gold coin bearing the symbol of the Ashoka Chakra on one side and India’s Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi’s image on the other side. The coins are being created in 5 gram and 10 gram options and a 20 gram bar and are of 24-carat and 999 purity.

MMTC is handling marketing of the coins. The government permitted MMTC to employ the gold received as deposits under the Gold Monetisation Scheme, mainly from temples, to mint the Indian Gold Coins. With Indian Overseas Bank currently distributing the said coins, further talks are underway with more banks for distribution of India Gold Coins.
