Lucapa recovers a 133.4 carat diamond at Lulo

Lucapa Diamond Company announced recovering a 133.4 carat stone at its Lulo Project in Angola. This discovery is the largest for the company from the site so far, reports say. Due to heavy rainfall in the December quarter, the company shifted its earth moving equipment to higher areas including some new trial mining blocks, amongst which was Mining Block 6.

The 133.4 carat stone was recovered at Mining Block 6 along with stones of 29.2 carats, 12.7 carats and 11.1 carats.

According to the company, the 133.4 carat stone is ‘a compound diamond that is unlikely to have travelled very far from the primary source and its relative proximity to our Mining Block 8 and other high priority kimberlite targets is, we believe, very significant,” as per reports.

The recovery of this stone and six others highlight the potential of Mining Block 6 to be a source of large alluvial diamonds. The 29.2 carat and 11.1 ct stones are of D colour, as per reports.

The Lulo project has also delivered stones recently of over 10.8 carats.
