Large Greenland Ruby valued at $450,000

TRUE North Gems Inc., a Canadian exploration company, reported the completion of the carving of the 440-carat rough ruby found in Greenland in 2005, which it believes, is the largest recorded ruby in the northwestern hemisphere.

True North commissioned master gemstone carver Thomas McPhee, took over 10 months to shape the stone. The final piece weighs 302 carats and has been valued at $450,000.
