After a successful stint in 2015, the Kolkata Gem & Jewellery Fair is being curated again from 8th - 10th April 2017 at the Milan Mela Grounds. The third edition was inaugurated on 8th April by Ahmed Hassan Imran, Member of Parliament, Government of India, Sabyasachi Dutta, Mayor of Salt Lake, Ashoke Bengani, President CG&JWA, Bijendra Bothra, Co Convener CG&JWA, Mr. Vivek Jain, Convener CG&JWA, Pramod Duggar, Secretary CG&JWA, Nitin Khandelwal, Chairman GJF, Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India and Abhijit Mukherjee, Group Director, UBM India amidst an industry gathering.

As the largest fine jewellery event in the region, the three-day fair will shine with a stellar cast of Bengal and international fine jewellery manufacturers, wholesalers and dealers of Diamond, Gold, Silver, Gem stones, Machinery and representatives from trade and government organisations showcasing a spectacular variety of exquisite jewellery and designs.

The grand fair, hosted by UBM India, in partnership with Calcutta Gem & Jewellery Welfare Association (CG&JWA), Bangiya Swarna Shilpi Samity (BSSS) and Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee coincides with the start of the seasonal festivities and the summer wedding season. It is suitably timed, just before Poila Baishakh, the Bengali New Year, and the auspicious Akshaya Tritiya. The fair presented over 150 exhibitors with international presence from USA, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It provided an interactive platform for buyers and suppliers to connect, network, exchange ideas, discover upcoming trends and generate business opportunities.

The Expo in addition to being the state's only show of such size and volume, is a significant contributor towards UBM India's footprint in the jewellery vertical with successful established shows in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Gujarat, reaching over 2 lac jewellers across India through exhibitions and road-shows especially in different parts of East India. The three day expo presented a rich array of intricately designed and handcrafted jewellery like sets in diamonds, pearls, gemstones, and gold and products and services along with traditional bridal pieces like Chandbalis, Choor, Ratanchoor, Mantasha, Saptalahari, Hansulis, Nabaratna sets, Kundan, Polki and Meenakari sets.

Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India said, "The third edition of Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair is going to make a mark in the Eastern India Jewellery market with a renewed foray by congregating manufacturers, retailers and suppliers all under one roof.  With continued support from the West Bengal government, the third edition has grown significantly in size and volume vis a vis the earlier editions. The magnitude of the fair surmounts the setbacks caused to the jewellery vertical in the past year and promises better business opportunities and a new beginning for the Eastern India gems and jewellery industry."

He added, "The East is also known for its rich legacy in jewellery and its skilled kaarigars. Through our expo, we are making a consolidated effort to promote their cause, welfare and art."

With a shift in the global trend of purchasing jewellery, millennials are adding remodelled format of heirloom jewellery pieces as a part of their wardrobe. They are moving over stereotypical designs to affordable bespoke pieces. The Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair is poised to establish a connect with the audience and visitors highlighting the trends to be followed this year.
