June HK Show: Its definately China calling.

A bigger and better show, buying steady despite increasing prices
June HK Show: Its definately China calling.

The June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair which commenced on June 23, 2011 concludes today.

This year saw a marked improvement in terms of the size of the show as well as in the number of visitors. According to UBM Asia, the show organizer, the first two days the fair drew 5,330 visitors from Hong Kong alone, which is a marked increase of about 34.15% as compared to the 2010 fair edition.

The show also attracted a lot of overseas buyers, and the number of attendees exceeded 15,606 from over 100 countries and regions.

The perfect timing and ideal location of the show contributed to its success as did the good response from the recently concluded China show.

Also the recent spurt in buying from the Far East countries, especially China led to a lot of companies making last minute plans to exhibit or visit. Many diamond and jewellery companies were first- time participants in the show mainly because China and Hong Kong have become important and potential markets for companies targeting the Far East.

The Chinese buyers are keen on buying diamonds of varying shapes and colours, even those of lesser quality. Gemstones like Tanzanite and Rubelite have also witnessed an astounding demand in the Chinese market. This could be a key reason behind the increase in prices of these stones during the last three months.

On the price point, the prices remained strong, which led to some hesitation and less buying activity during the first two days of the show, yet in the progressing days business picked up. The industry veterans are skeptical about the way the prices are constantly and steadily moving up and feel that there is a lot of speculation, as goods are moving from dealer to dealer and the real consumption is not happening at the same place.

On the whole the June Hong Kong show was another success in a line-up of the successful shows of 2011.
