Jewels: The Hong Kong Sale coming in May

Christie’s, has announced to schedule a spring sale of its magnificent jewels on May 28th in Hong Kong. The sale entitled Jewels: Hong Kong Sale, will feature 345 lots estimated to achieve in excess of US$56 million. The leading highlight is an exceedingly rare F colour, internally flawless VVS1 diamond of 101.27carats. It is the largest colourless diamond to appear at an auction in 18 years and the first such at an auction in Hong Kong. It was recently mounted on a tiara and is expected to realise in excess of HK$47,000,000 / US$6 million.

Other noteworthy colourless diamonds include two brilliant-cut diamonds: an unmounted D colour, potentially flawless 16.04 carat diamond and a D colour, internally flawless diamond of 12.15 carats. A rare Green 10.63 carat diamond, a collector’s specimen is expected to sell for US$2,000,000-3,000,000. The auction will also have a 7.18 carat fancy blue diamond.

Amongst the jadeite varieties, a pair of jadeite cabochon ear studs will be displayed that contain stones which are internally luminous and clear, radiating a remarkable depth of colour, a bright and intense emerald green typical of Burmese jadeite. Also a superb jadeite bead necklace carved from a single piece of gem-quality rough will be on auction. The necklace consists of 73 perfect beads – each matching in colour and shape. The high translucency of each intensely-saturated vivid green bead displays a combination that is both valuable and rare.

The sale will also present coloured gems, including emeralds, very worthy amongst which is a pair of emerald and diamond ear pendants set with Colombian emeralds weighing 9.12 and 8.84 carats, carrying a lineage of the Romanov dynasty.
