Retail sales of luxury goods rise mainly due to increased jewellery sales
Jewellery sales in U.S. rise during Christmas

The holiday season between November 1 to December 24, 2009, saw a 5.6 percent increase in jewellery sales in the U.S., on the same period of 2008, reports say. Rise in sales for the overall luxury products category was mainly contributed by the increased jewellery sales. If the jewellery sales are to be ignored, sales for the luxury segment jumped up only by 0.8 percent, reports add.

The U.S. witnessed increased retail sales in six out of 10 retail categories. The pick up in shopping was witnessed from Black Friday, noting sales in November to be weaker than December 2009. The U.S had an extra shopping day during Christmas season, which has also pumped up retail sales.
