In November 2012, polished diamond imports increased in both value and volume. The value of the said imports rose 9.1 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $67.8 million and in volume terms it increased 47 percent (on y-o-y basis) to 193,305 carats, reports say. The average price of the polished diamond imports dropped 26 percent to $351 per carat.
From amongst different key diamond centres of the world, Japan’s polished diamond imports rose by 18.4 percent (on y-o-y basis) from India to $32.6 million. From Israel, the said imports rose more than double to $10.1 million. There was however a drop in the imports from Belgium (by 0.5 percent) to $11.9 million and from Hong Kong ( by 49 percent) to $3 million, reports say.
