Japan's polished diamond imports rise 45% in May

Polished diamond imports into Japan increased both in value and volume in May 2012, reports say. In value terms, the said imports rose 45 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $76 million, with the average price of the diamonds rose 41 percent to $552 per ‎carat.

The volume of the polished diamond imports increased 3 percent (on y-o-y basis) ‎to 137,853 carats.

Polished diamond imports from leading diamond centres into Japan, all recorded an increase in May this year. From India the said imports rose 47 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $38 million, from Israel it was up 46 percent to $6.6 million, from Belgium it rose 8 percent to $11.2 million and from Hong Kong it gained more than three times to $8.9 million.
