Japan’s polished diamond imports rise 28% in December

In December 2011, Japan noted a 28 percent rise (on y-o-y basis) in its polished diamond imports which valued $66.5 million, as the average price rose a considerable 74 percent to $478.49 per carat. The country’s volume of polished diamond imports dipped 26 percent to 138,881 carats.

The entire year of 2011 delivered a 17 percent increase over 2010 in Japan’s polished diamond imports to amount to $813.6 million. The volume of the said imports dropped almost just as much, by 17 percent to 2.027 million carats. The year concluded with the average prices rising 41 percent to $401.36 per carat.
