Japan’s polished diamond imports rise 2.6% in March

In March 2013, Japan noted a 2.6 percent (on y-o-y basis) in its polished diamond imports, which valued $75.4 million, reports say. The said imports increased in volume terms as well, by 20 percent ‎to 177,067 carats. The average price of the diamonds decreased 15 percent to $426 per ‎carat.

According to different regions, polished diamond imports from almost all major centres rose - from Belgium they rose 36 percent to $14.7 million, from Israel they jumped 32 percent to $6.5 million, from Hong Kong they rose almost three times to $11.6 million and from the United States it increased 63 percent to $3.3 million. The said imports from India dropped 30 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $28.6 million in March 2013.
