In April 2013, polished diamond imports into Japan increased 20 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $67.9 million, while in volume terms the same was up 47 percent to 178,280 carats, reports say. The average price of the polished diamonds decreased 18 percent to $381 per carat.
Region-wise, imports of polished diamonds from India increased 15 percent (on y-o-y basis) to $34.4 million, from Hong Kong more than doubled to $7.9 million, from U.S. it rose 120 percent to $3 million, while from Belgium it increased just 0.4 percent to $10.8 million. Polished diamond imports from Israel declined 7 percent to $4.8 million.
