Japan’s polished diamond imports rise 18% in June

In June 2010, Japan’s volume of polished imports increased 35.4 percent to 212,235 carats, while the value of polished imports rose 18 percent to $60.1 million. There was a 13 percent drop in the average price of the diamonds to $283 per carat.

Imports from India rose 19 percent to $24.9 million, Belgium by 2 percent to $13 million and from Israel by 19 percent to $6.1 million.

Within the span of six months ending 30 June 2010, the country’s polished imports rose 6 percent in value to $334.5 million but dropped 3 percent in volume to 1.132 million carats. An 8 percent rise was noted in the average price to $295 per carat.
