Japan’s polished diamond imports fall by 4.24%

Japan’s polished diamond imports amounted to194,763 carats in the month of January 2009, falling by 4.24 percent in volume and an 8.36 percent in value, as per media reports. India was the lead supplier of polished diamonds to Japan, exporting 150,826 carats worth $31.27 million, amounting to $207 p/c on the average. The second largest supplier to Japan was Belgium with 12,149 carats at $16.77 million, amounting to $1,380 p/c, as per average. Japan’s imports in January 2009 fell by 4.3 percent amounting to an average of $344 per carat, from $359 p/c average in the same month last year.
