Japan’s department store sales fall

Jewellery sees a fall of 6.4 %

Japan’s department stores have seen a fall in their sales, which valued to a total of JPY524.0 billion ($5.19 billion) according to data released by the Japan Department Stores Association. The dip in sales was 4.7 percent, as per same-store totals.

Of the sales, clothing which normally dominated sales, fell by 4.8 percent. The sale of luxury goods has been on a decline owing to the economic situation, jewellery reduced by 6.4 percent, while household goods dropped still further by 12.4 percent. The sales in Tokyo’s department stores slipped by 4.6 percent to JPY132.56 billion ($1.31 billion,) in September, and this accounted as the seventh consecutive monthly of reduced sales.
