Japan records low polished imports

India's shipments fall by 32% in carats

Japan has recorded a lower import of polished diamond in September 2007. In terms of value imports fell by 11.5% to $69.9 million, as compared to September 2006 figures. In volume, the polished diamond imports declined by 26% to 177,233 carats.

During the month, Japan which receives maximum shipments from India, this month received 126,897 carats from India, a slump of 32% year-on-year to $25 million, averaging $197 per carat. Belgium, Japan’s second-biggest supplier, supplied 13% less to value at $16 million. Israel shipped $7.11 million worth of polished stones.
