International sales for Blue Nile increase by 27.5%

Blue Nile, Inc. noted a 2.4 percent increase in net sales to $66.9 million in the three months that ended October 4, 2009, as compared to the same period last year. The company believes the increase is propelled due to bridal jewellery sales and international market revival. The company’s net income increased by 10.3 percent to $2.6 million, while in the same period last year it was $2.3 million.

The international sales rose by 27.5 percent to $8.8 million. If the effects of changes in foreign exchange rates are ignored, international sales rose by 34.8 percent. The retailer’s operating income in the third quarter of 2009 increased by 17.6 percent to $3.9 million, as compared to $3.3 million in the same period last year.

The company is lining up exclusive diamond engagement rings, fine jewellery and a fresh website design to rope in sales during the festive season. It is aiming for net sales between $100 million and $109 million in the fourth quarter.
